Middle Year Programme (Class VI-VIII)

Middle years are the very core of any school that leave an ever-lasting impression on the child’s mind. The middle school curriculum is based on the modern educational approach, which marks a shift from teaching to learning. The focus is on equipping the students with essential skills and giving them confidence to use them effectively in real life situations.

Students learn best when their learning experiences have context and are connected to their lives and their experience of the world that they have experienced. The curriculum is approached through inquiry, developing what the students know into an exciting journey of knowing more–stimulating the student's latent curiosity and honing the skills of research, expression, presentation and application. Students learn to share experiences, work in teams and transfer knowledge gained in one area to another, through cross-curricular projects and themes.

The pace of academic demands is slowly accelerated and, while holistic growth is always the focus, our students are gradually prepared to accept challenges. Our students become aware of the need to set goals and have long-term objectives.

On one hand, the interaction between the learner and teacher is emphasized while on the other, the interaction among students is encouraged through collaborative learning, projects and practical exercises. The curriculum lays stress on knowledge beyond books and discourages rote learning.

Various activities are carried out apart from the regular curriculum to keep the children interested and to enhance their skills, imagination and creative prowess. The curriculum is research oriented and learning opportunities are provided through worksheets in the classroom, laboratory time, library time, computer time and small group discussion
The middle years are very crucial as the children either develop an enduring and joyful relationship with learning or come to view it as a detestable chore. The Agastya educators help children to create the right contexts and experiences for learning that resonate in the student's mind.
